Senator Schmitt Adds Judiciary Committee in New Congress, Retains Commerce, Armed Services, and Joint Economic Committees
WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Eric Schmitt announced his committee assignments for the 119th Congress, which includes the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Joint Economic Committee, all of which Senator Schmitt previously served on, and the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“As we head into the next Congress, I’m excited to announce that I’ll continue my work on the Senate Commerce, Armed Services, and Joint Economic Committees, and I’ll be joining the Senate Judiciary Committee. I look forward to bringing my background as an attorney and former state attorney general to the Judiciary Committee and contributing to the important work on that committee, which includes working with the Trump Administration to restore trust in the Department of Justice and return to the rule of law. Further, serving on the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Senate Commerce Committee, and the Senate Judiciary Committee allows me to better advocate for Missourians, including on critical Missouri military installations, rural broadband, and law and order in our major cities like St. Louis and Kansas City,” said Senator Schmitt.
BACKGROUND
- In his time on the Senate Armed Services Committee, Senator Schmitt has aided in the crafting of two National Defense Authorization Acts, where he fought to rid the military of divisive DEI policies, increase DoD’s cyber resiliency, and bring critical resources to Missouri’s military agencies.
- On the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, Senator Schmitt has focused on reducing regulatory burdens for commercial space launches, as well as rural broadband reforms and major telecoms issues like Rip and Replace.
- In addition to its critical role in providing oversight of the Department of Justice and the agencies under the Department’s jurisdiction, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Department of Homeland Security, the Senate Judiciary Committee plays an important role in the consideration of nominations and pending legislation.
- The Judiciary Committee is also charged with the consideration of all Article III judicial nominations.
