WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Eric Schmitt hammered Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm on the Biden Administration’s depletion of the strategic petroleum reserve and her coordination with the CCP:

BACKGROUND:

• Senator Schmit has been a leader in the Senate when it comes to focusing on countering the rise of China, and has previously highlighted the Biden Administration’s disregard for America’s safety with the irresponsible draining of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.   
• As the Strategic Petroleum Reserve dips to near historic lows, the Biden Administration has no clear plan to restore capacity.
• The Biden Administration recently announced it would cancel the purchase of up to 3 million barrels for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve due to high prices.
• With gas prices predicted to increase throughout the summer, American taxpayers could be on the hook for even more because of the Biden Administration’s current inaction.
