Senator Schmitt Slams Schumer’s Border Amnesty Bill in Speech on Senate Floor
WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Eric Schmitt spoke on the Senate floor highlighting Democrats’ convenient change of course on the border crisis and a desperate election year vote on a broken bill:
“This bill doesn’t move us forward; it moves us backwards. It would create an express lane for illegal immigration, weaken existing law, and make America less safe. This is the Democrats’ last-ditch effort at an election year political stunt because their polling is plummeting,” said Senator Eric Schmitt.
BACKGROUND:
- In total, more than 9.6 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border under Biden, including 1.8 million known “gotaways” who escaped past Border Patrol and into the country.
- The number of people killed by fentanyl is up 94 percent since 2019.
- In FY2024, at least 80 terror-suspects have been caught attempting to cross the border, the FBI warns that the open border poses a major terror threat.
- Senate Democrats have voted against the Laken Riley Act, HR.2, deporting illegal migrants that assault police officers, and allowing local law enforcement to detain illegal migrants who commit crimes.
